Product Description Enjoy beer can chicken using your own grill or oven! The stainless steel rack, with beer can (half full) and entire chicken, is placed on a grill with a lid large enough to cook an upright chicken. Moist, seasoned steam permeates the chicken as it cooks. A small onion or potato in the neck cavity seals in vapors. Substitute beer with cola, root beer or other soda for a variety of flavors.
Amazon.com Review This stainless-steel rack from Bayou Classic lets you cook a chicken via the beer can method with less worry about the hot can spilling or getting knocked over. A 12-ounce can of beer or soda fits securely in the stand's center (which protrudes into the bird's cavity), while the circular wire base spans a wire grill more securely than individual "feet" and supports a chicken up to four pounds in weight. The chicken can be cooked on this rack in a variety of ways: on a charcoal grill, gas grill, or inside an oven. Reusable and dishwasher-safe, the ChickCan rack measures seven inches in diameter and five inches high, and makes a novel gift for the outdoor chef. Instructions included with the rack make the process easy. Basically, the can is half emptied and seasonings such as Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, and minced garlic are added. When heated, the liquid creates a fragrant steam that keeps the chicken moist. The neck of the bird should be closed with either a potato or onion to prevent the moisture from escaping. After one to two hours of cooking, the bird and rack should be lifted off the heat very carefully with a fork and tongs and allowed to cool. A larger rack for turkeys is available separately. --Ann Bieri

Bare-bones, but durable and works amazingly well! August 22, 2007 Lisa Chu (CA) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I am very happy with this vertical roaster. I've used it dozens of times, and throw it in the dishwasher when I'm done - not even one rust spot.
The accompanying recipe also gets an A+ - I've had several requests for the recipe. It's almost impossible to ruin a bird cooked this way. Even if you overcook, it will still be moist because of the inner steam.
However, it doesn't come with a cup, so you have to either find a glass that fits or use a can. I don't like the idea of superheated aluminum and paint, so luckily I have a glass that fits perfectly.
I use mine in the oven, not the BBQ, though I'm sure it would work well there also. It fits in a pie pan, and I use a glass one. If you don't have a pie pan, you may want to consider buying a roaster which comes with its own pan.
I still give it 5 stars because for what you get, it works beautifully!
The right tool for the job May 7, 2007 S. Faulkingham (Plainville, MA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I've tried different style can holders but this is simply the best can holder for beer can chicken. Quality designed at a low price. It adds just the right balance for chickens up to 8 lbs. (Use a 16 oz tall boy for birds 6 lbs and up). It's small profile doesn't add much width to the can so birds fit nicely. I found higher priced fancy designed holders don't do any better job than this one.
Great gadget!!! December 26, 2008 HipFlyGirl (Marina del Rey, CA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Great gadget!!! No more wobbly chicken on soda/beer cans!! I've toppled many whole chickens (hot ones.... ouch, scorched by hand) before purchasing this chicken stand. It drains the grease AWAY from the chicken. Some save the accumalated grease on the bottom for gravy....not me though.. I'm not a southerner and too many calories in gravy for me.
NOTE: YOU CAN ROAST THE CHICKEN WITHOUT THE CAN AND STILL TASTES GREAT!!
I made a slow cooked sticky chicken that was baked at 250 for fours hours and then roasted at 375 for 30 minutes and its was falling off the bone.
GO buy one of these now!!
loved it! January 8, 2007 Eric McNeely (SC, USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have been wanting to try Beer Can Chicken for awhile and my parents just happen to have one of these from a impulse purchase awhile back unused. So I got a chicken, got some rub, popped open a cold one and went to work. The stand is a much more stable way of cooking the chicken than just having the can hold up the way. The result was one of the most moist chickens I have ever eaten! I recommend this!
Not for this price! August 4, 2008 Jean F. (Wisconsin, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great product; it's sturdy and makes the chicken far more stable on the grill, but I bought mine at Ace Hardware for around $5.
$34.38? I don't think so.
