ABOUT THE AUTHOR Myron Tassin is the author of three other Pelican books on the history and culture of Louisiana. ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER Fonville Winans, whose work is widely known under the name "Fonville," is perhaps the premier photographer of Acadiana. A descendant of Louisiana's French Creoles, he traversed the bayou country for more than a decade during the 1920s and 1930s, recording the lives and folkways of the Acadian people.
